The PODFather helps Dash It secure large scale contracts for outsourced logistics

With headquarters in Southampton, Dash-It is an international specialist logistics company that has been in business for 25 years. The full spectrum of services provided through their 14 strategically located depots within the UK and Ireland means that any consignment from package to pallet can be transported to its destination by the most suitable means. This could be a motorbike within the city or a 7.5 ton truck going from one end of the country to the other.

As an international business, Dash-It can provide collection and delivery services through established networks and agents within specified timescales. All sizes and content of consignments are expertly handled with the latest technology to track shipments and provide proof of delivery.

Dealing successfully with many blue chip companies who typically outsource their logistics operations to Dash-It – either in part or in full – requires robust IT systems to ensure an efficient and rapidly scalable business. This is where Dash-It saw an opportunity by teaming up with The PODFather to allow large scale contracts to be taken on with confidence, knowing that The PODFather applications would eliminate the increase in back-office administration associated with paper POD systems.

Ciaran Maher, Director of Dash-It, takes up the story:

“With The PODFather, we've been provided a cost effective PDA system which is fully integrated with the Dash-It back office and depot systems.

“Once The PODFather trial was up and running, it was evident there were many benefits to managing this large scale contract. Three hours of admin time has been saved per depot, per day by eliminating the processing and archiving of paper PODs. Data errors have also been eliminated as all deliveries and completed job details are in a consistent format. The information is also instantly archived in The PODFather where we can easily produce reports on driver activity.”

Both Dash-It and their clients now have access to PODs online and can view all jobs regardless of status. Ciaran continues:

“Our client appreciates the new system as they now have a single online portal to view the status of their jobs, including PODs. Our drivers also found the system easy to understand and straight forward to use. The search functionality on the PDAs meant they could filter their allocation of jobs by postcode, giving them flexibility in route planning. Dash-It drivers typically have between 50 to 100 drops per day and all need to be handled carefully and tracked with precision. The PODFather can send information on any missing or damaged packages back to the office or depot in real time and have replacements sent as soon as possible.”

Dash-It relies on its systems and processes being accurate, efficient and cost-effective. By implementing a cost-effective solution with a client who wanted to outsource and reduce the cost of their logistics operations, Dash-It and The PODFather have both benefited.

“By trialling The PODFather with a major client of ours, we were able test if it was up to coping with volume deliveries accurately,” explains Ciaran Maher, Director of Dash-It. “We have been very pleased with the positive impact it has had on this contract, and we are now implementing the system across other depots and contracts”.
