Green Apple Award for PODFather with Taylor Woodrow BAM Nuttall JV at Victoria Station Upgrade

10 December 2014

Congratulations to the Environment Team at PODFather's customer Taylor Woodrow BAM Nuttall JV at the Victoria Station Upgrade (VSU) for recently winning two Green Apple Awards, one of which was for innovation in waste management processes by using the PODFather electronic ticketing system to track material movements arriving and leaving the VSU sites.

Launched in 1994, the Green Apple Awards are internationally recognised for identifying businesses who demonstrate environmental best practice.

The Victoria Station Upgrade is a complex project to upgrade one of London’s busiest underground stations.  It is located at the centre of a major transport interchange between Victoria Underground Station, National Rail Station and Bus Terminus; weaved around a dense population of residents and stakeholders

The upgrade involves extending the existing ticket hall, providing a new ticket hall, constructing approximately 300 metres of tunnels to link the two halls, and providing step-free access into the station.

Around 245,000m3 of waste will be generated by demolition and excavation works across the VSU project, and so it was essential to identify a robust method of managing the waste disposal process that would provide a platform to ensure that TW/BAM were successfully meeting their legal obligations.

Caroline O'Connor from BAM Nuttall and Tom Whatling from Taylor Woodrow collected the awards at the Houses of Parliament on Nov 10th 2014. Congratulating the Environment Team, Alastair Broom from PODFather commented, "We're delighted to be helping VSU demonstrate innovation by improving the timeliness and accuracy of their environment reporting whilst reducing the cost of compliance."

Craig Prangley, VSU Project Director said: "Our environmental team have been dedicated to using innovative methods to manage and mitigate the impact of VSU from the outset, so it's great to see their efforts recognised with these awards."

The project is already exploring further use of the system such as the logging of aggregate and concrete deliveries, and Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme Vehicle Safety compliance monitoring in order to maximise its benefit.
